Research Focus
Dr. Larry P. Walker is a national leader in industrial biotechnology: the application of biotechnology to industrial production. The type of research projects that intrigue him are found at the interface between engineering and the life sciences. He is also excited by the challenges and opportunities of integrating industrial biotechnology activities into the cause of global sustainable economic development. His nanotechnology research is focused on using single molecule detection methods to study cellulase adsorption and hydrolysis mechanisms and the application of these methods for molecular ecology study of important microbial communities. His current research activities are very much in keeping with the national goal of using plant-based resources to meet future energy and industrial chemical needs. His research will help contribute new technologies for biotechnology and bioenergy corporations through both prospecting and engineering of useful industrial enzymes from microbes and plants.
